Leon Goretzka making most of the limited opportunities

The injury to Aleksandar Pavlović has opened up opportunities for Leon Goretzka. The former Schalke midfielder is yet to start a game for Die Roten, but he is getting decent game time from the bench. Goretzka is making the most of these opportunities by delivering steady performances.

The German international didn’t play in midfield against Mainz as he replaced Kim Min-jae just before the hour mark. Goretzka looked rock solid in the defense and ensured Mainz didn't get an inch around Bayern's box. He was also tidy on the ball, completing 98% of the passes he attempted in 32 minutes.

Goretzka may not get starts under Kompany, but he can make an impact for Bayern from the bench. The recent games have shown that he is up for the challenge and helps the team in any position. Goretzka’s future is unlikely to be affected by recent opportunities. He could still end up leaving next summer, but the German midfielder is certainly not letting the coach down whenever he is coming on the pitch.
