Bayern’s hunger for possession reaping rewards

In the majority of games this season, Bayern have dominated the opposition with and without the ball. Vincent Kompany wants his team to show equal intensity in and out of possession. The players are enjoying the training sessions under the Belgian coach. They also believe that the current style of play will eventually help Bayern to achieve success.

The win against Mainz was another dominating display in possession for Die Roten. Kompany’s men had 80% of possession in the game, giving Mainz hardly any breathing space. The visitors looked hungry and eager on the pitch to keep the ball without losing potency in the final third.

Die Roten still have areas to improve, specifically when it comes to breaking down a stubborn defense. However, the hunger shown by the team to dominate possession gives them the needed stability to get positive results. It also gives them a psychological edge over the opposition. Moreover, players also end up saving a lot of energy by keeping the ball. The results are already showing the impact of dominating possession, but Die Roten will get more rewards in terms of workload management and injuries as the season progresses.

The change of personnel doesn’t alter Bayern’s plan to dominate possession, which is credit to Kompany’s coaching.
