The Club World Cup campaign started with a bang for Bayern Munich as they hammered 10 goals past Auckland City FC on Sunday. The Bavarian club showed a ruthless streak in the final third to show why they are one of the favourites going into the tournament.

Vincent Kompany went with the strongest starting XI available to him for this game. Jonathan Tah made his Bayern debut alongside Josip Stanisic in the heart of the defense. With Jamal Musiala just returning from a serious injury, Thomas Muller continued to play in the number 10 role behind Harry Kane.

Bayern wasted no time in the game to get on the scoresheet. Jonathan Tah laid off the ball for Kingsley Coman after a pinpoint delivery at the back post from a corner by Joshua Kimmich. Coman neatly headed the ball past the goalkeeper to open the scoring.

The French winger was involved in another goal a few minutes later as he cleverly headed the ball in the path of Sacha Boey. The former Galatasaray full-back latched on to the ball and drilled it past the goalkeeper to double Die Roten’s lead.

Michael Olise put the game beyond Auckland City FC inside 20 minutes by scoring the third goal. The French winger was in the right position in the box to capitalize on the loose ball after a threatening cross from Muller. A minute later, Coman unleashed a furious shot from the left flank to make it 4-0 for the Bundesliga champions.

Bayern were completely camped in the opposition half throughout the first half. Olise showed his excellent chance creation ability by setting up Thomas Muller at the end of the half with a pinpoint cross. The French winger ended the half by scoring the best goal of the game as he curled the ball past the keeper from the edge of the box. The game was effectively done and dusted in the 45 minutes as Bayern had raced to a 6-0 lead.

Jamal Musiala scored quickfire hattrick on return to action

Vincent Kompany made several changes in the second half to give minutes to other players and a couple of youngsters (Lennart Karl and Adam Aznou). Jamal Musiala made a return to the pitch after two months. The German international took very little time to make an impact. He beautifully curled a shot from outside of the box in the 67th minute to make it 7-0 for Die Roten.

Musiala successfully converted from the spot six minutes later after he was brought down in the box. The German star completed his hattrick by pouncing on a stray pass from the goalkeeper around the box. Muller got Bayern’s lead in double digits by scoring his 250th goal for the club in the 89th minute.

Manuel Neuer was a spectator throughout the game, as Auckland City FC had one shot in the entire game. Bigger tests lie ahead for Bayern in the competition, but they have set the tone for their campaign in the best possible way.
