Bayern Munich have been handed a cracker of a tie in the third round of the DFB-Pokal as they will take on reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen at home.

The draw for the DFB-Pokal round of 16 has been made and Bayern Munich will take on title rivals Bayer Leverkusen in what promises to be a blockbuster tie. The game will take place at the Allianz Arena on December 3-4, 2024.

DFB-Pokal favorites drawn against each other

The Bavarians will be determined to win the DFB-Pokal this season, having not won the competition since 2020. But standing in their way in the next round will be Bayer Leverkusen, who won the trophy as part of their unbeaten domestic double last season. The two teams are the favorites to win the competition this season.

Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen met in the Bundesliga in September and played out a 1-1 draw with Vincent Kompany's side dominating proceedings. But anything can happen in the Pokal, and Xabi Alonso will be determined to get the better of the club he spent three years at as a player.

It will be interesting to see which team comes out on top in what should be a captivating DFB-Pokal tie. The clash will follow Bayern Munich's trip to Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga, making it a pivotal few days for the record champions.

Bayern Munich cruised to victory against Mainz 05 in the second round of the DFB-Pokal, while Bayer Leverkusen defeated SV Elversberg 3-0.

The DFB-Pokal round of 16 draw delivered a number of exciting looking ties. RB Leipzig will go up against Eintracht Frankfurt, while VfB Stuttgart will be away to Jahn Regensburg. Another all-Bundesliga tie will see VfL Wolfsburg take on TSG Hoffenheim.
