Bayern Munich bosses remain confident in Manuel Neuer's ability to remain a key player for the club despite his recent struggles.
Manuel Neuer has made a number of high profile errors in recent months, and has especially struggled in the UEFA Champions League. The veteran goalkeeper made a costly error in judgement in the defeat to Aston Villa, and was also criticized by some fans and analysts for his performance against FC Barcelona earlier this week.
Despite that, Neuer still retains the support of the Bayern Munich bosses as both head coach Vincent Kompany and sporting director Christoph Freund defended him during Saturday's press conference.
Manuel Neuer gets Bayern backing amid poor form
Freund backed Neuer to showcase his match-winning abilities again soon. "There will be many games where we'll talk differently about our goalkeeper because he's won games for us. We're very sure of that."
"Manu is always trying to improve. He's playing a very attacking goalkeeping game, our style of play suits him. He's still a great support for the team, a great personality. He is very present, we are very happy that he's in goal for us."
Neuer's positioning has come under the spotlight, and he also made a few uncharacteristic errors in possession against Barcelona that proved to be costly in the 4-1 defeat.
The 38 year old has been a constant in the Bayern Munich lineup for many years now, and he remains a key player for the team even as he gets closer to the end of his playing career. Neuer will hope to turn things around in the coming weeks and showcase his quality in the Bayern goal.
