After facing disappointment in their pursuit to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, Bayern Munich have stepped up efforts to sign other targets. The Bavarian club has taken a significant step forward in strengthening its defense for next season.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern have reached a verbal agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt defender Nathaniel Brown. The Bundesliga champions have agreed a contract with the German international until 2031.

Die Roten have also initiated contact with Frankfurt to start negotiations for a transfer fee. Considering the fact that Brown has four years left on his current deal, Eintracht Frankfurt want a fee close to €60 million for the German international. It remains to be seen how much Bayern want to pay to clinch the deal for Brown.

Brown recently spoke glowingly about a move to Bayern while talking to the media ahead of the World Cup. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a good season with Frankfurt, playing week in week out. He chipped in with four goals and four assists in 33 Bundesliga games last season. Brown’s primary position is left-back, but he can also play on the right side of the back four and slot in the heart of defense.

Signing full-backs is priority for Bayern Munich this summer

Bayern need to strengthen the full-back positions this summer due to the departures and injury issues of Alphonso Davies. Raphael Guerreiro has already left the club on a free transfer, while Sacha Boey is expected to leave Munich on a permanent deal after spending the second half of the season on loan at Galatasaray.

Brown can come in and slot in the left-back position. He can rotate with Alphonso Davies in this position. The German international can also provide cover for Konrad Laimer in the right-back position.

With Bayern open to listening to offers for Hiroki Ito, Brown can also become an option in the heart of the defense when needed. The deal to complete Brown’s move to Bayern may take some time due to the defender’s involvement at the World Cup. However, a swift conclusion this week can help Die Roten to complete the medical and other formalities in the USA. The German defender will be asked further questions about his future later today in the USA as part of the media duties.

Considering Brown’s versatility, Bayern may not have to sign another full-back this summer. Alphonso Davies, Konrad Laimer, Brown, and Josip Stanisic will provide quality and depth in this position next season.
