The primary objective for Bayern Munich in the final week of the transfer window is to find clubs for fringe players who are not part of their plans for next season. They are already close to finalising a permanent transfer of Joao Palhinha to Benfica. The 30-year-old midfielder is already in Portugal as two clubs thrash out the finer details of the deal.
Meanwhile, Bayern have also found a breakthrough in their search for a club to sign Bryan Zaragoza. The Spanish winger was heavily linked with a move to Spain as Espanyol stepped up efforts to sign him last week.
According to Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayern have agreed a loan deal with Espanyol for Zaragoza. This deal also has an obligation to buy next summer worth €8 million. Zaragoza is expected to leave for Spain in the coming hours to complete the transfer, as he has been training separately at Sabner Strasse. Sky Sports in Germany have also confirmed that a deal has been agreed between Bayern and Espanyol for Zaragoza.
Sevilla had also shown interest in Zaragoza, while Saudi Arabian clubs were also interested in the Spanish winger. However, Zaragoza’s preference was always to return to La Liga. Espanyol have managed to beat the competition from Sevilla to reach an agreement with Bayern.
Zaragoza spent last season on loan at Celta Vigo and AS Roma. The two loan spells were not successful, as he struggled with poor form and injuries. He was not part of Bayern’s pre-season tour as he was recovering from knee inflammation.
The 24-year-old had a disappointing time at Bayern. He arrived from Granada in January 2024 for €15 million, but ended up making only 7 appearances for the club. Die Roten have done well to recoup half of the fee paid for him since his form has been poor over the last 12 months.
Bayern push for departure of Sacha Boey
After completing deals for the exits of Palhinha and Zaragoza, Bayern are now pushing for a departure of Sacha Boey. The French full-back was left out of the squad against Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on Saturday.
Boey spent the second half of last season on loan at Galatasaray. He had a productive loan spell, but Galatasaray didn’t have an extra spot for a foreign player to sign Boey this summer. There has been interest from the Premier League, but Rekordmeister are yet to receive offers for him.
