The start of the summer transfer window has seen Bayern Munich scampering for a winger across Europe. After missing out on Florian Wirtz, Bayern have decided to strengthen the attack by signing a left-sided winger.
The Bundesliga champions have identified Bradley Barcola and Nico Williams as their top targets to add more quality on the left flank. However, neither player is expected to complete a move to Bavaria for different reasons. Barcola will stay put at Paris Saint-Germain, while Williams prefers a move to FC Barcelona.
Bayern are also keeping tabs on several forwards across Europe. According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Die Roten have added Gabriel Martinelli and Luis Diaz to the list of targets to strengthen the attack this summer.
Martinelli has gone from strength to strength under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. The North London side is looking to strengthen the attack, which suggests Martinelli’s game time may witness a dip next season. The Brazilian winger will be a difficult deal to complete since he has several years left on his contract at Arsenal.
Meanwhile, Diaz is entering the final two years of his contract at Liverpool. The Merseyside club has already rebuffed approaches from FC Barcelona this summer. Even though contract talks have not started between Liverpool and Diaz, the Premier League champions have no plans to part ways with the Colombian this summer.
Both players will certainly add more quality to Die Roten’s attack, but they are unrealistic deals to complete for Bayern at the moment.
Jamie Gittens tilting towards a move to Chelsea
Bayern had also revived interest in Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens in the last few days. The English forward is expected to leave Dortmund this summer. Despite interest from Bayern, Gittens is favouring a move to Chelsea.
Gittens has already agreed a long-term contract with Chelsea. The London side had a couple of bids rejected for the winger earlier this month. Talks continue between Chelsea and Dortmund in the USA during the Club World Cup.
Apart from the above-mentioned names, Bayern also have registered interest in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. The Dutch winger is not for sale at Liverpool, so it is potentially another unrealistic deal Die Roten might be pursuing.
Leroy Sane has played his last game for Bayern Munich. Thomas Muller is also leaving Die Roten after the Club World Cup. The last few games have certainly highlighted the need for new forwards at Bayern. The next few weeks will be crucial for Rekordmeister as they are seemingly working on multiple deals.
