Leon Goretzka continues to highlight his importance to the team

In the absence of João Palhinha and Aleksandar Pavlović, Leon Goretzka stepped up in central midfield. The German international delivered solid performances in the last few weeks. Unfortunately, he returned to the bench on Saturday since Pavlović was fit to start. Goretzka is not a first-choice midfield option for Kompany, but he found a way to contribute against FC Heidenheim.

The German international came on in the second half and delivered a good performance to put the game past Heidenheim. Goretzka completed 23 of the 25 passes he attempted in 19 minutes. He made two recoveries and two defensive interventions to provide solidity to Die Roten’s midfield.

Goretzka most importantly found the back of the net in the 83rd minute to put the game beyond Heidenheim’s reach. Despite going through a difficult phase in his Bayern career, Goretzka continues to make a positive impact on the pitch. Even though Bayern want to sell him, it would be an unwise move from the club to part ways with him in the winter. Leon Goretzka can play a decisive role in Bayern’s pursuit of Bundesliga and Champions League titles. They can make a final decision on his long-term future in the summer. (All stats courtesy: Fotmob)
