Bayern Munich looked poor mentally and technically
The referee was poor, but there was no denying how underwhelming Bayern Munich looked on Wednesday. The players looked out of control mentally and physically. The early goal from PSG played a big factor. Unlike Arda Guler's goal in the Real Madrid tie, Dembele's opener put PSG two goals ahead.
The minutes after that goal looked promising as Michael Olise and Luis Diaz created some decent chances. However, everything went downhill after the two handball controversies. The players looked frustrated and uncomfortable on the pitch. They felt they were unfairly treated.
Vincent Kompany is usually great at halftime pep talks, but it did not seem to work this time around. Bayern looked even more disoriented and disorganised in the second half. Frustration reached an all-time high when PSG started to play in a compact low block and effectively tried to shut down Bayern's wing play.
Bayern did not look up to standards technically either. Die Roten had chances in the first half, but the shots either went wayward or were too simple to save for Matvey Safonov.
Defensively, there were too many missed headers, clearances, and tackles. Admittedly, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Desire Doue, and Bradley Barcola are extremely technical. But there should not be any circumstances when they should skin three defenders alive as many times as they did in the match.
