Bayern Munich's season has gotten off to the smooth start fans have grown accustomed to. Bayern currently sits third in the Bundesliga, grabbing just 11 of a possible 15 points, dropping points to both Schalke and Augsburg. The team hasn't looked as gelled together as we saw from them last season, leading to the lackluster team performances.
A couple of players in particular have gotten off to a slow start to the 26/27 season, but none more obvious than Luis Diaz. The Colombian has managed just one goal through the first eight games and has looked far off his pace from last season. Many fans are getting concerned about Lucho's early form; however, one executive isn't worried at all and is 100% behind the player, knowing it's only a matter of time until things click this season.
Following Bayern's dramatic 2-2 draw with Augsburg, while speaking to BILD (via iMiaSanMia on X), Max Eberl was asked about Luis Diaz's slow start to the new season, and the Bayern official fully backed the player. Eberl went on to say:
"We would have been very happy if the goal [against Augsburg] had stood, because it would have done him good. He’ll come good again. You can see his movement, he’s involved in the game, and he keeps finding solutions. I think he’s definitely on the way up."Max Eberl
Luis Diaz's slow start to the season isn't rattling top Bayern officals
The 28-year-old is coming off a career year where he grabbed 26 goals and 23 assists in 51 matches for Bayern in the 25/26 season, and matching that was always going to be tough. As mentioned earlier, he's got just the one goal this season; however, he did put the ball in the back of the net against Augsburg, only for the goal to be controversially ruled out for offside. As Eberl said, that goal would have been good to get his confidence back, but with a player like Diaz, his time will come very soon.
Diaz was one of the most-played players for Bayern last season, playing a total of 4,060 minutes as well as featuring in every game for Colombia at the World Cup, so his early-season struggles are most likely down to him just being tired from how much he had to play last season. Diaz wasn't called up for Colombia during the three-week international break, giving him some much-needed rest to find his form from last season again.
Bayern's Champions League clash with Viking will be a good opportunity to get his footing back under him against a lesser opponent and hopefully find the back of the net and get that confidence back before the huge upcoming clashes against RB Leipzig, Arsenal, and Borussia Dortmund.
