Munich was awash with red and blue for the first Münchner Lokalderby in five years. Around the Städtisches Stadion an der Grünwalder Straße, both sets of colours were everywhere. With all due respect to the ‘S-Bahn derby’ played the previous day, this Munich encounter carried extra significance.
That intensity was evident from the start of the Regionalliga Bayern clash. As early as the sixth minute, Florian Niederlechner found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Jannis Bärtl, who produced a brilliant save.

Breathless first half ends 3-1 to Bayern
Just six minutes later, Bayern took the lead through Anton Heinz. Tim Binder controlled a fine pass from inside his own half before picking out Heinz, who finished with ease. Straight from the restart, Niederlechner headed narrowly wide, which set the tone for the rest of a breathless derby afternoon.

Just as 1860 were beginning to pose a greater threat, Bayern doubled their lead. Della Rovere delivered a precise pass towards the right byline, allowing Binder to carry the ball into the penalty area and drive a low shot into the bottom-right corner.
Christian Leone pulled one back soon afterwards, converting Mike Gevorgyan’s excellent cross. Two minutes later, Leone turned provider with another dangerous delivery, but Raphael Wach was denied by another fine save from Jannis Bärtl.

The half-time score looked set to remain 2-1, but goalscorer Heinz had other ideas. From around 22 yards, he fired in Bayern’s third beneath the crossbar.
Degraf seals pulsating derby as Bayern climb the table
The return of this storied derby continued to entertain the crowd in the second half. The fixture had not been played for several years because 1860 München were competing in the 2. Bundesliga. After a series of disputes with investors, the traditional club was relegated to the Regionalliga Bayern.
Moments after Codjo Evora had a goal ruled out, Emre Erdogan reduced the deficit to one again, turning a free header into a goal.
Once again, the game swung back and forth between the two Munich sides. Referee Felix Wagner was forced to suspend play briefly because of the thick smoke from pyrotechnics set off by Bayern’s away supporters.

After the smoke had cleared, 1860 looked the likelier side to find a 3-3 equaliser. Instead, Bayern struck to make it 4-2 through Artur Degraf. Santos supplied an excellent cross, and Degraf created the space to finish with a clever feint.
The Münchner Stadtderby did not disappoint. At last, Dante’s side delivered an assured performance.
