Bayern Munich are expected to be busy in the winter transfer window. Since the Bavarian club had a poor end to the summer window, they need to strengthen the squad in January. Bayern will find it difficult to get feasible deals for the desired profiles since clubs are reluctant to sell in the winter.

The Bavarian club is looking to strengthen the defense since they will be losing Kim Min-jae, Bouna Sarr, and Noussair Mazraoui for a lengthy time due to the AFCON and Asian Cup. Moreover, they have left themselves short in defense after selling Benjamin Pavard in the summer without signing a replacement.

Rekordmeister need a versatile defender that can play in central defense and right-back positions like Pavard. The latest murmurs from Germany suggest that Die Roten have identified a defender playing in the Premier League to fill the void left by Pavard.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern are interested in signing Arsenal’s Takehiro Tomiyasu. The Bavarian club tried to sign him in the summer but failed to get a deal over the line. Arsenal are not keen on selling the Japanese defender. Bayern are ready to make a move for him in the winter if the English club is open to negotiating a deal.

Tomiyasu’s versatility to play in several defensive options makes him an ideal target for Die Roten to replace Pavard. The 25-year-old defender can play in both full-back positions. He can also slot in the heart of defense if needed. His signing will certainly add quality depth to the defensive department of the squad.

Bayern may not make a move for the Japanese defender in January since he will also be involved in the Asian Cup. Considering the scarcity of versatile quality defenders in the game, it wouldn’t be a big surprise if Bayern aggressively pursues a move for Tomiyasu in the summer transfer window.

Die Roten will still look to sign at least one defender in January since they will be short in numbers for the start of Ruckrunde. The Bavarian club will not be pursuing a move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah. The English defender was subject to interest from Die Roten in the summer, but he has endured a difficult time with injuries this season, which potentially rules out a move to Bavaria.

Along with a defender, Rekordmeister will also look to sign a defensive midfielder in January. Fulham’s Joao Palhinha remains on the radar, but the Bavarian club is not eager to spend a big fee on him. Bayern are also monitoring several other midfielders for the number six role.
