Bayern Munich forwards have been in fine form this season, scoring goals for fun in the Bundesliga. Harry Kane and Leroy Sane have led the scoring and assists charts for Bayern, while Mathys Tel has been lethal from the bench. The French forward is averaging a goal every 80 minutes this season.
Along with scoring six goals in 480 minutes, Tel has also chipped in with three assists. His latest assist came against FC Heidenheim in the last game week before the Bundesliga. It was a crucial assist since Bayern clinched all three points after scoring the fourth goal in a six-goal thriller against Heidenheim.
Tel has also scored some big goals this campaign. He came off the bench away at Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga to score the winner. The French forward also scored the winner against Manchester United in the Champions League. Tel has consistently been a threat in the final third, irrespective of how many minutes he plays in the game.
Courtesy of good form for Bayern, Mathys Tel has been called up for the French U-21 squad in the last two international breaks. While talking to the media this week (via iMiaSanMia), Tel revealed things that he needs to improve in order to strengthen his claim for a place in the starting XI.
"“I would say the vision of the game. Reading the game before receiving the ball to go faster. I also tend too often to want to play alone, you have to see your teammates to be able to assist them. And then there’s the technical area where I can still improve a lot.”"
Thomas Tuchel also spoke glowingly about Tel after the win against Heidenheim. The German coach has been surprised by the maturity and efficiency shown by the young forward whenever he comes on the pitch. His teammates are also pleasantly surprised by the strong mentality he has shown since arriving at Bayern in 2022.
Tuchel will continue to use Tel from the bench since he believes that is the perfect role for him right now. The French forward turned 18 this season, so it’s crucial to manage his workload. With the senior forwards in fine form, Tel’s time to start games will eventually come in the future.
The French forward should look to score 10-12 goals this season across all competitions. Along with goals, if he continues to polish the rough edges of his game, then the sky is the limit for him. In Tuchel, he has got a good coach that can help him to achieve his potential.

Tel is also learning a lot from Harry Kane on and off the pitch. The English striker has been in devastating form for Die Roten since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in August. Tel believes that Kane is the perfect mentor for him. With the perfect team environment and ideal club, Tel has the right conditions to improve and become a world-class player.
