Bayern Munich confirmed the appointment of highly-rated Rene Maric on Wednesday as team lead coaching development and game planning. Maric has previously worked in the Red Bull setup with Marco Rose. He also had coaching stints at Leeds United, Borussia Dortmund, and Borussia Monchengladbach after working closely in the Red Bull Setup.

Christoph Freund played a crucial role in bringing Maric to Bayern. In the club’s official statement, Freund revealed that Maric caught his eye early in the stint with RB Salzburg. Freund was the sporting director at RB Salzburg before moving to Bayern in September.

Maric will be working closely to strengthen the interface between Sabner Strasse and the Bayern campus. He will be working with the academy coaches and see over the pathway to the first team for the academy graduates. It will be intriguing to see how Bayern will reap rewards from this newly created role.

Christoph Freund is slowly putting things in place as a sporting director at Bayern. According to Kicker (via iMiaSanMia), Freund is taking more responsibility at Bayern behind the scenes. The Austrian sporting director is expected to bring a big improvement in the development process of young players at Bayern. The appointment of Maric is one of the key steps taken by Freund to strengthen the link between players coming from the academy and the first team.

The Austrian sporting director had a great record in transfers and development of young talent at RB Salzburg. He wants to see more players from the Bayern campus becoming first-team regulars. It will be interesting to see how Die Roten’s recruitment and player development policy shapes up under Freund.

Along with making important sporting decisions, Kicker also reports that Christoph Freund played the role of mediator between Uli Hoeness and Thomas Tuchel. Hoeness had urged Tuchel to stop talking about transfers in the media. Freund helped clear the air between the duo by holding a private meeting.

The winter transfer window is just six weeks away. Bayern Munich have a significant job to do in January since they will be losing key players to the AFCON and Asian Cup during winter. The Bavarian club also needs to replace Benjamin Pavard and Ryan Gravenberch. With Christoph Freund finding his feet at the club, he will look to continue the good work by getting good players that will help Thomas Tuchel win two trophies.
