Harry Kane and Leroy Sane have been the best forwards for Bayern Munich this season. They have scored and created the bulk of the goals across all competitions from Rekordmeister. Both of them are nailed starters under Thomas Tuchel. Apart from Kane and Sane, Bayern also have a reliable option from the bench in Mathys Tel, who can make an instant impact with limited playing time.

Tel came on against Heidenheim last weekend and provided the assist for Die Roten’s fourth goal that effectively sealed the victory. The French forward delivered an inch-perfect cross from the right flank for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting to head the ball past the goalkeeper.

The 18-year-old forward has been consistently delivering from the bench for Tuchel. Mathys Tel has scored six goals in almost 250 minutes of game time across all competitions. The French forward also has three assists for Bayern this season.

Thomas Tuchel had hinted towards a loan move for Mathys Tel at the end of the season. The German coach is pleased with the development of Tel this season, and he is happy to have him in the squad. While talking to CanalPlus (via iMiaSanMia), Tuchel admitted that Tel’s efficiency has surprised him this season.

"“He’s very, very efficient. It’s unbelievable. We should always remember that he’s 18 because he plays like a 22-24 year old player. He’s capable of changing games and he proved it again against Galatasaray. We’re happy that he plays for us.”"

The French teenager has made correct decisions since joining Bayern in 2022. Tel rejected interest from Real Madrid to join the Bavarian club. He had a decent debut campaign despite having a few injury problems. However, training with top-quality players was a great experience for him in his debut campaign.

After a decent debut campaign, Tel was heavily linked with loan moves away from Bayern. Tottenham Hotspur and Augsburg had reportedly shown interest in the French forward. However, Tel wanted to continue his development in Munich even if game time was not guaranteed.

The French forward’s decision to stay in Munich has definitely helped all parties. Harry Kane is acting as a mentor for the youngster. Training with top-quality players will help him to polish the rough edges of his game. He is also doing fairly well whenever Tuchel is bringing him on the pitch.

Tel’s performances in less playing time have certainly led to a debate about whether he should get more opportunities from the start. However, Thomas Tuchel has a differing opinion about this debate. The German coach had previously insisted that Tel’s current role in the squad is to make an impact from the bench. Tel has a lot of time on his side to eventually cement his place in the starting XI.
