Bayern Munich have a lot of work to do in the next few months when it comes to contract renewals of key players. Some players’ contracts need urgent attention since they will become free agents at the end of the season, while few players will be entering the final year of their deals in the summer.
Alphonso Davies is in the pool of players who will have only 12 months left on their contracts when the current campaign comes to an end. The Canadian full-back is considered a key player by Bayern, but it does look like he might be open to departure in the summer.
According to Sport1, Alphonso Davies is leaning towards joining Real Madrid in the summer. The Spanish club holds a strong interest in the 23-year-old left-back. The defender’s representatives are already in talks with Real Madrid.
Meanwhile, Sport1 also reveals that Bayern are keen on extending the contract of Davies. However, there are no active contract negotiations taking place between the Bavarian club and Davies’ representatives. Die Roten will have to act sooner rather than later if they want to want one of the best full-backs in the world to stay in Bavaria.
Hasan Salihamidzic had reportedly agreed personal terms with Davies for a new deal last season. However, Salihamidzic’s departure led to an impasse in contract talks. It does look like Christoph Freund is yet to open negotiations with Davies. The longer they take to start negotiations, the further Davies will be closer to joining Real Madrid.
The Spanish club is reportedly laying the groundwork for a deal that can be completed next summer. Real Madrid will definitely look to get Davies on a cut-price deal next summer due to his contract situation, so Bayern find themselves in a very tricky situation.
Bayern cannot afford to lose such a top talent to one of their top European rivals. They had to sell Toni Kroos in 2014 under similar circumstances. The German midfielder ended up helping Real Madrid win several Champions League. He established himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe. His departure was a bitter pill to swallow for the Bavarian faithful. Die Roten cannot afford to make the same mistake with Davies.

Christoph Freund should try to navigate through the differences between Bayern and Davies’ representatives due to delays in contract talks. He needs to bring them back on the table and start negotiations for new terms. It will be interesting to see how Bayern handles this contract headache since the interest between Davies and Real Madrid is mutual.
