Manuel Neuer has made a steady return to action for Bayern Munich. The defeat against Saarbrucken was bitter, but Neuer couldn’t have done anything to stop two goals. The German international kept clean sheets against Darmstadt and Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga since returning to full fitness.

Neuer has done well whenever he has been called up to make saves across the last three games. Bayern will hope that he regains his best form and shows once again why he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

In the absence of Neuer during the first quarter of the season, Bayern relied on Sven Ulreich to guard the goal. The former Hamburg goalkeeper did an admirable job of helping Die Roten to remain unbeaten this season during his run in the starting XI.

Neuer, Thomas Tuchel, and Bayern chiefs spoke glowingly about Sven Ulreich’s performances this season. They were satisfied with the way he fulfilled the duty of being Die Roten’s first-choice goalkeeper. The Bavarian club is ready to hand him a new contract to keep him as Neuer’s deputy for a couple more seasons.

According to SportBild’s Tobi Altschaffl (via iMiaSanMia), Bayern have already held talks with Ulreich’s representatives over a new contract. Ulreich is leaning towards staying in Munich, and he wants to retire at Bayern. There is also a possibility of working with the club in a different role post-retirement.

Ulreich’s current deal with Die Roten expires at the end of the season. Since he has a good working relationship with Neuer and can deliver good performances whenever called upon, it makes complete sense to keep him around the squad for the next couple of seasons.

Bayern are expected to hold talks with Neuer over a new deal later this season. The German international would like to play at the top level for a few more seasons. Die Roten need to assess his fitness over the next few months before giving him assurances over game time in the coming years.

If Neuer and Sven Ulreich both stay at Die Roten next season, Daniel Peretz may have to go out on loan to get playing time. The 23-year-old Israeli goalkeeper arrived in Munich during the summer transfer window to replace Yann Sommer in the squad. Peretz will need regular game time to prove that he can be Die Roten’s long-term number one.
