Bayern Munich have been very unfortunate with injuries this season. They have lost key players for weeks in the first quarter of the season. Dayot Upamecano became the latest Bayern player to be sidelined for weeks due to an injury.
The French defender is set to be out for four to five weeks due to an injury he suffered against Freiburg just before the international break. He was ruled out for France’s two games during the break. Upamecano will most likely make a return to action late in November. However, there has been positive news for Die Roten on the injury front during the international break.
Four players train on the grass at Sabner Strasse during international break
Matthijs de Ligt is closing on a return to action as he started training with first-team players during the international break. The Dutch defender has been on the sidelines since the 7-0 win against VfL Bochum. He was expected to return against Freiburg, but the Dutch defender still felt pain in his knee.
De Ligt should be fit to start against Mainz this weekend. The Dutch international’s return is timely for Bayern since they lost Upamecano for several weeks. Bayern will hope that Kim Min-jae and De Ligt can avoid injuries for several weeks since they are the only fit center-backs in the squad.
Serge Gnabry has also started training with the first-team players who stayed at Sabner Strasse during the international break. The German winger had suffered a forearm injury during the DFB Pokal game against Preussen Munster. Gnabry underwent surgery to fix the injury. He was spotted training at Sabner Strasse with a protective case in his hand. The German winger should be fit to play against Mainz.
Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting was withdrawn from Cameroon’s squad for the international break due to a minor injury. The 34-year-old forward has recovered from this minor injury as he was spotted in the first team training on Tuesday.
Joshua Kimmich couldn’t feature for Germany during the international break due to illness. It remains to be seen if he will recover in time for the game against Mainz. Meanwhile, Manuel Neuer is closing on a return to action after spending nine months on the sidelines. Neuer is expected to play against Mainz on Saturday. He has been training with the first team throughout the international break.
