Thomas Tuchel once again turned to substitutes on Tuesday to bail him out against FC Copenhagen. The German coach was not let down by players that came on in the second half in Denmark when Bayern Munich were 1-0 down. The two substitutes- Thomas Muller and Mathys Tel, combined well to score the winner in the 83rd minute against Copenhagen.

Tel has made the habit of scoring goals whenever he comes on the pitch during the second halves of the games. However, this goal was all about Thomas Muller. The experienced German forward showed grit and precision to make this goal happen. It was not surprising to see all his teammates and Tuchel praising him in the post-match interviews since he changed the course of the game.

Despite the adulation after the game against Copenhagen, could this be Muller’s last season at Bayern?

It could be. Since the start of the season, Muller has seen a significant drop in-game time this season. The German forward is no longer the first-choice option in the number ten role. Jamal Musiala has cemented the place behind the striker, which leaves Muller to be content with minutes from the bench.

The German international also faces significant competition in the wide areas, making it difficult for him to find a place in Die Roten’s strongest starting XI. Muller may have to reevaluate his situation at Bayern if he wants to play regularly at the top level, which is certainly the case since he rejected offers from Saudi Arabia in the summer.

Will Bayern release Thomas Muller in the summer?

Despite the reduced role in the squad, Bayern still values Muller’s position in the squad. He provides much-needed energy on the pitch whenever he gets the opportunity to play. Moreover, he is a tactically sound player that any coach would like to have in the squad. Most importantly, Muller is one of the leaders in the current squad.

Sport1 (via iMiaSanMia) has revealed that Die Roten will be open to giving a new deal to the German international if he continues to excel in the current role. Muller’s contract with Bayern comes to an end in 2024. Talks with Muller’s representatives are yet to take place, but sorting a new deal will not be a big issue if all parties are eager for a resolution.
