SC Freiburg

Freiburg entered Matchday 7 sitting eighth in the Bundesliga table with ten points. Christian Streich’s men are also battling on two fronts as their 5th-place finish in the 22/23 Bundesliga season helped them to qualify for the Europa League.

Similar to Bayern, Freiburg will be playing their seventh match since the international break. Unlike Rekordmeister Freiburg suffered defeat in the midweek European game against West Ham. Freiburg will be looking to repeat their shock DFB Pokal win in the Allianz Arena last season when they face Die Roten on Sunday.

Christian Streich is known to switch from a back 3 to a back 4. While I would not be too surprised if he uses a back 3 on Sunday, I think he will stick with a 4-2-2-2 shape that brought the club success at Allianz Arena last season.

Noah Atubolu has taken over as Freiburg’s number one and the 21-year-old will get his first experience facing the defending Bundesliga champions. The young Frenchman Kiliann Sildillia will play right back with Matthias Ginter and Austrian international Philipp Lienhart playing central. Lukas Kubler should start on the left.

With Nicolas Hofler serving a three-match suspension for his red card against Dortmund, Yannik Keitel will pair with Maximilian Eggestein in the midfield. In front of the midfield pivot, Hungarian Roland Sallai and Italian Vincenzo Grifo with operate as the creators.

Freiburg newcomer Junior Adamu, signed from Salzburg this summer, will pair with Lucas Holer to form the strike partnership and finish off Freiburg’s attacking threat.

Predicted Score

Bayern Munich 2-1 SC Freiburg (Harry Kane and Jamal Musiala)

Stop me if you have heard it before, but Bayern will again struggle to defend set pieces on Sunday. Facing a side that led the Bundesliga in goals scored from set pieces, I don’t have a good feeling about keeping a clean sheet. Luckily, the attack is in fine form. Harry Kane will add to his goal tally and Jamal Musiala will get the other goal to give Bayern a hard-earned 3 points.
