The opening gameweek of the Champions League saw Bayern Munich host Manchester United. After a well-fought match and a thrilling series of events, Bayern came away on top in this seven-goal stunner. Here are Bayern’s top performers from the 4-3 win over Manchester United.

Harry Kane

Though for a majority of the match Manchester United defenders did a good job at keeping Harry Kane quiet, it only needed him a few moments to make a mark on the game. To regain Bayern’s two-goal lead, Kane slotted home a perfectly taken penalty, nestling the ball into the bottom left corner of the net.

Even though this goal was gifted to the striker from a handball, it was exactly what Bayern needed to rejuvenate their second-half efforts. Within five minutes of his goal, Kane had an excellent chance for a brace but drew an acrobatic save from United’s Andre Onana. Along with his goal, Kane also provided the assist for Bayern’s opening goal to cap off a class performance in his Champions League debut for the German Giants.

Jamal Musiala

Jamal Musiala was the sole driving force in the midfield against Manchester United. The youngster saw the bulk of Bayern’s best attacking play go through him instead of driving down the wings like usual. Musiala was skipping past players with ease and playing the right pass whenever he entered the final third.

In one instance, Musiala charged down the field himself, dribbling past three different United defenders to set himself up for a decent shot. Nobody on the pitch displayed more skill than the 20-year-old. Musiala also had the best build to a goal of the night. In the 32nd minute, Musiala raced towards goal from the halfway line. Taking on two defenders in front of the net, Musiala opened up enough space to slot the ball across to Gnabry for Bayern’s second goal. Overall, yet another impressive Champions League performance from Jamal Musiala.

Leroy Sane

The man who opened up the scoring for Rekordmeister and was the brightest player on the pitch, Leroy Sane led the Bundesliga side to victory against Manchester United. From his sheer ability to create space, make wide-open runs through the defenders, and lead a star-studded attack, Sane was the one to watch under lights at Allianz Arena.

Next. Kane pleased with smooth integration at Bayern Munich. dark

To open the game, Die Roten was under a lot of pressure on defense and could get nothing to go on the other side of the field. Leave it to Sane to completely change the tide of the match. It was Sane’s opening goal that made the rest of the match go all Bayern’s way. No, the goal was not anything too spectacular, but it was the composure that Sane had when Bayern were struggling. A definitely Man of the Match performance from Leroy Sane.
