After a disappointing last campaign, Bayern Munich had identified number nine as the key position to strengthen during the summer transfer window. Several top clubs were looking to strengthen this position. Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane was the only established world-class striker who was realistically available for transfer during the summer.

Bayern decided to make Kane their top target at the end of the last season. They had started working on this deal 12 months ago as they reportedly held preliminary talks with Kane’s representatives at the start of last season.

Spurs were eager to keep Kane, but the English striker was ready to explore a new adventure at this stage of his career. With 12 months left on his contract, Spurs had no option but to cash in or risk losing him for nothing in 2024.

After getting three bids rejected for Kane during the summer, Bayern finally reached an agreement with Spurs before the start of the Bundesliga campaign. The English forward has hit the ground running for Rekordmeister, chipping in with four goals and one assist in the first four league games of the season. While talking to Sports Illustrated, Kane thanked Bayern for the smooth integration into the team since it was the first big transfer of his career.

"”Everything has been fantastic so far. I obviously had a lot to do, both on and off the pitch, looking for a house and so on. The whole club, the team, the employees, everyone welcomed me very friendly and helped me to settle in as quickly as possible.”"

Harry Kane has been humbled by the response of Bayern fans towards his arrival. It is a monumental transfer for Die Roten and Bundesliga as they managed to bring one of the biggest stars from the Bundesliga, beating competition from other big clubs in Europe.

The England international’s start to the season is not a surprise. He has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe during the past five seasons. Kane scored 30 goals in the Premier League last season for a struggling Spurs side. The 30-year-old forward should comfortably score close to 40 goals this season across all competitions for Bayern.

Along with contributing on the pitch with goals, Kane is already becoming a leader in the dressing room at Die Roten. In the interview with Sports Illustrated, Kane insisted that he wants to lead by example when he is at the training ground and on the pitch. He wants to set good standards at the club like all world-class experienced players do on the biggest stage. Tuchel and Bayern are reportedly thinking about adding Kane to the leadership group in the squad.
