Harry Kane continued a good start to life at Bayern Munich with a goal against Bayer Leverkusen on Friday. The English striker has scored four goals in as many Bundesliga games this season and also has an assist to his name. Kane has expectedly hit the ground running for the record Bundesliga champions.

While Kane is taking the plaudits for his good start to the campaign, Mathys Tel has also made a solid start to his second season at Bayern. The French forward came off the bench against Leverkusen on Friday to set up the goal for Leon Goretzka.

Tel also scored the winner against Borussia Monchengladbach before the international break. The French forward has two goals and an assist to his name in four Bundesliga games this season. He is coming off the bench and making a significant impact for Die Roten in the final third.

Bayern are pleased with the growth of Tel in the last 15 months since arriving from Rennes. According to Kicker, the Bavarian club has activated the option of a contract extension in Tel’s contract after he turned 18 in April. Die Roten had signed Tel for a three-year deal last summer. After activating the option, Tel’s new Bayern contract will expire in 2027.

Mathys Tel enjoyed a very productive debut campaign at Die Roten. He scored five goals across all competitions. The French forward became the club’s youngest goalscorer in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal. Tel’s game time did decrease under Thomas Tuchel in the last couple of months, but the situation has changed drastically for good this season.

Tel was heavily linked with a loan move away from Bayern during the summer transfer window. Tottenham Hotspur and Augsburg were reportedly interested in signing the French forward. Tuchel had also hinted that the 18-year-old forward may have to go out on loan to play regularly.

Despite interest from several clubs, Mathys Tel was determined to stay in Bayern. He believed that staying in Munich would help him to become a better player even if playing time was limited. As things stand, his decision has been completely vindicated. He may end up getting adequate playing time in the Bavarian shirt this season.
