Bayern Munich: Three memorable goals in Champions League
Roy Makaay scored the fastest goal in the history of the competition (7th March 2007)
The 2006-07 Champions League ended in a disappointing manner for Bayern as the team went out against AC Milan at the quarter-final stage. However, this Champions League campaign witnessed one of the most memorable goals for Bayern. In the round of 16, the Bavarian club clinched a victory over arch-European rivals Real Madrid in Munich, courtesy of a wonder goal from striker Roy Makaay.
Trailing 2-3 from the first leg in Madrid, Die Roten needed to win at home to progress in the competition and they duly did so by a 2-1 margin to advance on away goals.
Real Madrid got the match underway but, before the Spaniards could complete three passes, Hasan Salihamidzic pounced on Roberto Carlos to dispossess him, as the Real Madrid left-back miscontrolled the ball. Before they knew what had hit them, Salihamidzic burst down the right flank and slid a perfect pass into the box for the Dutchman to sweep the ball first-time past Iker Casillas.
It took only 10.12 seconds after kick-off for the Bavarians to give Real Madrid the dubious distinction of conceding the quickest goal in Champions League history. The quickfire goal from Makaay helped in setting up the victory for Die Roten on the night. It will take a special effort to beat this Champions League record anytime soon.
