Bayern Munich ready to release Julian Nagelsmann for DFB
A tense international break came to an end on a good note for Germany. After suffering a humiliating defeat against Japan, the German national team bounced back with a victory against France on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the defeat against Japan led to the sacking of Hansi Flick. Bayern Munich may play a significant role in Germany’s search for a new head coach.
DFB allowed sporting director Rudi Voller to take the training for Germany before the game against France. After the win on Tuesday, Voller made it clear that he will not take up the coaching position in full capacity. Former Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann has been reportedly tipped to replace Flick.
Nagelsmann is still on the payroll of Bayern. The record Bundesliga champions would make things smoother for DFB if they decided to pursue a deal for Nagelsmann. While talking to the media this week (via TZ), Bayern’s supervisory board member Uli Hoeness admitted that they will release Nagelsmann if DFB decides to appoint him as the new head coach of the national team.
Bayern parted ways with Nagelsmann at the end of March due to inconsistent performances of the team. The German coach was getting paid by Die Roten since he had signed a five-year deal in 2021. Negotiations with Rekordmeister for a fee will be needed if clubs want to hire Nagelsmann.
Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Paris Saint-Germain were heavily linked with Nagelsmann during the summer. However, the German coach couldn’t reach an agreement with any of these clubs, which made sure that negotiations with Bayern never started.
Since DFB cannot afford to pay a fee for Nagelsmann, Bayern will have to release the German coach. Bild (via iMiaSanMia) has reported that Die Roten would like to play a friendly with the German national team, and the full salary of Nagelsmann should be covered by DFB. The next few weeks will give more clarity on the head coach of the national team. Germany needs to find a replacement sooner rather than later to avoid disruption in their preparation for next summer’s Euros on home soil.

Apart from Nagelsmann, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp has also been linked with the vacant coaching role at the German national team. However, Klopp’s agent has ruled out a possible move to international football. Klopp is eager to keep working at the club level with Liverpool.
Louis Van Gaal is another Bayern head coach who has been linked with Germany. The Dutch coach is open to managing an international team despite calling an end to his coaching career in December after the World Cup campaign with the Netherlands. DFB will hope to have a new head coach in place before the next international break in October.
