The Bundesliga campaign for Bayern Munich resumes on Friday against Bayer Leverkusen at Allianz Arena. It will be an exciting encounter between two teams that have won all of their games this campaign until now. Bayern needed to get the season off to the best possible start after the deflating 3-0 defeat against RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup.

Die Roten looked sharp in the final third, with Harry Kane hitting the ground running. The English striker has scored three goals in the league until now. Leroy Sane has been another star performer for Bayern this season, scoring thrice in three league games.

With attacking players stepping up in the final third, there has been a disciplined performance from Die Roten in the defense. They have conceded two goals in three games, which also includes a clean sheet against Werder Bremen on matchday one.

Dayot Upamecano has been one of the key players for Die Roten at the back. The French defender has started all three games with Kim Min-jae in the heart of the defense. While talking to SportBuzzer, Upamecano insisted that Bayern needs to stop conceding silly goals and keep more clean sheets.

"“With three wins after the first three matchdays, we are right on track. The most important thing is that we don’t drop unnecessary points – we managed to do that so far.”“However in my opinion there’s still a small flaw. As a centre-back, I hate it when we don’t keep a clean sheet.”"

On a personal level, Upamecano has bounced back well after a difficult end to the last campaign. The French defender struggled against Manchester City in the Champions League and also ended up making mistakes in the final stretch of the Bundesliga.

Dayot Upamecano was sidelined with a minor injury in the last few weeks of the season, which allowed Benjamin Pavard and Matthijs de Ligt to start in the heart of defense. The former RB Leipzig defender should be pleased with the way he has got out of the lean patch and established himself as first-choice center-back under Thomas Tuchel this season.

Min-jae has also enjoyed a good start to life in Munich. The South Korean defender has forged a good partnership with Upamecano in the heart of defense. De Ligt is not concerned about the lack of starts in the initial phase of the season, as he is confident about getting adequate playing time as the season progresses.

Die Roten struggled to defend collectively last season, which ultimately led to their downfall in the Champions League and DFB Pokal. They need to become a defensively resolute side to have a chance of competing on all fronts. The Bavarian faithful will be hoping that Tuchel has finally found the solution to the team’s defensive problems.
