The Bundesliga campaign has started on the best possible note for Bayern Munich. The defending champions have won all of their three league games, ticking almost every box when it comes to performances in these games. The latest win came away at Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend, courtesy of a late winner from Mathys Tel.

Going into the new campaign, there was a lot of speculation about the future of Mathys Tel. The French striker was heavily linked with a loan move away from Munich, with Augsburg as one of the clubs showing interest in him. The speculation was also fuelled due to Die Roten’s pursuit of Harry Kane.

Kane eventually arrived in Bavaria before the start of the Bundesliga campaign, but Tel was determined to stay in Munich. The French forward believed that staying at Bayern was best for his development instead of going out on loan. Early signs do suggest that Tel made the right decision.

Tel led the attack against RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup a few weeks ago. The game ended in a disappointing defeat, but there were a lot of encouraging signs in Tel’s performance. His finishing still needs work. However, the young French forward was in the right place to get chances against Leipzig.

In the first league game against Werder Bremen, Tel started on the bench as Kane made his Bundesliga debut for Bayern. The French forward made an instant impact after coming off the bench late in the game by scoring the team’s fifth goal. The contribution from Tel against Gladbach was even more decisive as it helped Die Roten to clinch all three points at a stadium where they have not won since 2019.

It does look like Tel has pipped Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in the pecking order of strikers at Bayern. Along with the ability to lead the attack, Tel can also play on either flank if needed. Despite the arrival of Kane, there is a lot of scope for Tel to get adequate playing time at Die Roten this season. The good start to the season further highlights that Tel’s confidence to stay at Bayern was not a misstep.

Tuchel had also hinted towards a loan move for Tel at the end of the season. However, the French forward has managed to win over the German coach. Apart from getting adequate playing time, Tel will also learn a lot in the training from a world-class striker- Harry Kane.
