Bayern Munich weighing up move for Manchester United midfielder
The final five days of the transfer window could be frantic for Bayern Munich. The Bavarian club completed a deal for Daniel Peretz over the weekend, but there is still work to be done in other areas for both arrivals and departures.
Bayern has already improved the midfield department by signing Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig on a free transfer. However, Thomas Tuchel is keen on adding a number six to the squad before the end of the window. The club chiefs had previously decided against signing one more midfielder this summer, but it does look like Bayern are working on a deal for a Premier League midfielder.
According to Bild, Bayern are interested in signing Scott McTominay from Manchester United. The Bavarian club is working on a deal with Manchester United and McTominay’s representatives. Christian Falk from Bild has also reported that a loan swap deal involving McTominay and Ryan Gravenberch has also been discussed with Manchester United.
The Scottish midfielder is no longer the first-choice option for Erik Ten Hag at Manchester United. McTominay has come off the bench in all of their three Premier League games. The Red Devils had rejected a bid worth £30 million from West Ham for the 26-year-old midfielder as they valued him close to £40 million.

Bayern will not match Manchester United’s valuation for McTominay. They may look to secure a loan move with the option to buy. The loan swap deal involving Ryan Gravenberch will benefit all parties. The Red Devils have been linked with a late move for Gravenberch. Ten Hag has previously worked with the Dutch midfielder, so it will be an ideal environment at United to get back to his best.
McTominay came through from Manchester United’s academy. After making his debut under Jose Mourinho in 2017, the Scottish midfielder has racked up over 200 appearances for Manchester United. McTominay is no longer the first-choice option in midfield at United due to the arrivals of Mason Mount and Casemiro at the club in the last two summers.

The Scotland international can operate in the number six role, but he can do the most damage higher up the pitch when used in the number eight role. McTominay can also play in the center-back position if needed. He will bring physicality and robustness to Die Roten’s midfield if a move materialises in the next five days. Manchester United would ideally like a permanent transfer, but if the player pushes for a loan deal, then Die Roten can complete this transfer quickly.
