FC Augsburg

Just like Bayern Munich’s matchday one opponent, Werder Bremen, FC Augsburg saw their Pokal Cup dreams crushed in the opening round two weeks ago to 3. Liga side SpVgg Unterhaching. Augsburg recovered to take a point on matchday one of the Bundesliga against Borussia Monchengladbach with a thrilling 4-4 goal fest that saw Augsburg come back from 2-0 and 3-1 down before surrendering a late equalizer in the form of a 97th-minute penalty.

Expect Finn Dahmen to get his second start in goal for Augsburg following his signing from Mainz this summer. In front of him, Felix Uduokhai, who recently signed a long-term contract with Augsburg, should get the start with Mads Pedersen on the left. Centrally, I’m wondering if former captain Jeffrey Gouweleeuw is fit enough to get the start after the backline conceded four goals. On the right, Robert Gummy returns following his one-game suspension for his red card on match day 34 last season.

Niklas Dorsch marks his return to Munich with a start in the midfield with Elvis Rexhbecaj operating as the double pivot beside him. Arne Maier gets his first start of the Bundesliga campaign on the left side of the midfield four with Ruben Vargas playing on the right.

New club captain Ermedin Demirovic will get the start up top, along with Mergim Berisha who has scored 5 goals in his last four games against the Bavarian giants.

Predicted Score

Bayern Munich 3-1 FC Augsburg (Goals: Kane x2, Sane)

Harry Kane will feed off the home crowd and get numerous chances. Sane’s free role behind Kane gives him an opportunity to ghost in for a finish. Until I see consistent defensive performances, I don’t trust Bayern to keep clean sheets.
