The goalkeeping department of Bayern Munich has been subject to a lot of speculation throughout the summer. After the departure of Yann Sommer earlier this summer, Bayern have been assessing several goalkeepers to replace the Swiss goalkeeper. The search for a new shot-stopper finally concluded on Friday.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Daniel Peretz travelled to Munich on Friday to complete a move to Bayern. The 23-year-old goalkeeper has signed a five-year deal with the German club. Rekordmeister will be paying a fee worth €5 million with further add-ons.

Peretz is unlikely to be part of the squad for Sunday’s game against Augsburg since his deal was not completed in time to register for matchday two. The Israeli goalkeeper played his last game for Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday before sealing a move to Die Roten.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper will provide competition to Sven Ulreich in the squad this season. Ulreich is currently the number one in the goal since Manuel Neuer is still struggling with a leg injury. Neuer could make his return to action after the international break in September.

Bayern has been linked with several goalkeepers this summer. They had identified Brentford’s David Raya as the top target, but the Spaniard rejected a loan proposal from Die Roten to join Arsenal. The Bavarian club explored a deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga, but Real Madrid won the race to sign the 28-year-old goalkeeper from Chelsea.

Eventually, Bayern had identified Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega as a possible goalkeeping addition to the squad. However, Pep Guardiola was not keen on parting ways with Ortega. Bayern chiefs eventually decided to stick with Ulreich as number two instead of signing a new deputy for Neuer. Ulreich delivered good performances in pre-season, which eventually convinced Bayern hierarchy to look for a different type of goalkeeper.

Daniel Peretz emerged as the top target for Die Roten last week. It will be a signing that can serve Bayern well in the short and long term. Peretz can learn from Neuer at Bayern in the next couple of years before eventually taking over as the number one. The 23-year-old goalkeeper may make his Bayern debut against SC Preuben Munster in DFB Pokal next month.

Peretz is unlikely to be the last signing for Die Roten this summer. The Bavarian club is looking to find the replacement for Benjamin Pavard, who has agreed personal terms with Inter Milan. Thomas Tuchel has blocked Pavard’s exit for now since Rekordmeister are yet to find a quality replacement for the French defender.
