On Matchday one of the 2023/24 Bundesliga, Bayern Munich were hosted by Werder Bremen in their season opener. After one of their most exciting transfer windows in club history, a lot of excitement revolved around this Bayern side coming into the season, especially with their most recent signing of star-striker Harry Kane.
Bayern are being held to high standards this season, considering their rather poor performances in the last season. In the opening matchday, the German Giants did not disappoint. Here are Bayern’s top performers in the 4-0 win against Werder Bremen.
Alphonso Davies
From every aspect of the full-back’s game, Alphonso Davies had a world-class performance to start off the 23/24 Bundesliga season. On the defensive side of the ball, Davies had the best performance in Bayern’s backline. Using his pace and confident tackling, the Canadian international made sure he didn’t give attacking players a sniff when they came up against him.
Offensively, Davies was the main source of creativity in Bayern’s final third. His precise passing and rocketing crosses led to the goals in the 74th and 94th minutes. Grabbing these two assists in the second half capped off a brilliant performance for Davies.
Harry Kane
Many questions were raised about €100 million man on how quickly he would be able to make an impact for the reigning Bundesliga champions. Stuck in their search for a Robert Lewandowski replacement all last season, Bayern have finally found their man.
It only took Harry Kane just one Bundesliga match to find his groove with his new side. With a very early start, Kane grabbed himself his first-ever Bundesliga assist in just the fourth minute. More impressive than that, it only took him 74 minutes to score his first Bundesliga goal– on his debut nonetheless. A great start for England’s star striker in the new phase of his career.

Leroy Sane
Leroy Sane put on quite a show in this Bundesliga opener as he kicked off the season in the best way possible. Right from kickoff, nearly all of the offensive play was going through Sane, which quickly resulted in Bayern’s first goal. In just the fourth minute, Sane was sent streaming down the middle of the pitch to seal away an excellent goal while one-on-one with the Bremen keeper.
Just as he started the match, Sane finished with the same amount of intensity. In the 90th minute, the German international calmly slotted the ball into the net to score Die Roten’s third goal of the game. Based on his goal-scoring and overall attacking presence, Leroy Sane capped a Man of the Match performance from Matchday 1.
