Bayern Munich: What to expect in remainder of transfer window?
Bayern Munich has done a fine job in the summer transfer window by completing a deal for their top target before the start of the Bundesliga. The Bavarian club unveiled Harry Kane on Sunday after the English forward completed €100 million move from Tottenham Hotspur. Kane made his Bayern debut against RB Leipzig in DFL Supercup on Saturday.
Apart from Kane, Bayern has also added Konrad Laimer, Raphael Guerreiro, and Kim Min-jae to the squad. Laimer and Guerreiro arrived on a free transfer, while they paid €50 million for Kim Min-jae. The South Korean defender will replace Lucas Hernandez in the squad. The French defender left the club in July to join Paris Saint-Germain for €50 million.
Despite adding four quality players to the squad this summer, Bayern still has work to do in the final 15 days of the transfer window. Let us look at which areas there could be new additions before the end of the transfer deadline day.
Goalkeeper
Bayern is in desperate need of a goalkeeper due to the departure of Yann Sommer and uncertainty over the fitness of Manuel Neuer. The Bavarian club had identified David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga as top candidates for this role, but both Spaniards have decided to join Arsenal and Real Madrid, respectively.
Ajax goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli was also a viable target for Die Roten, but he suffered a serious injury over the weekend, which completely rules out a transfer. Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou has been linked with Bayern, but the Spanish club is looking for a permanent sale. Rekordmeister doesn’t want to spend heavily for a goalkeeper, so it remains to be seen how they fill this crucial position.
Midfielder
Rekordmeister has already strengthened the midfield this summer by signing Laimer from RB Leipzig. However, Tuchel remains keen on adding a holding midfielder to the squad. The Bavarian club was interested in signing Declan Rice from West Ham, but the English midfielder preferred a transfer to Arsenal.
Most recently, Bayern has been linked with PSV Eindhoven’s Ibrahim Sangare for the number six role. They have also been linked with an ambitious move for Real Madrid’s Aurelin Tchouameni. It will be fascinating to see which player Bayern will eventually sign to address this position.

Defender
Signing one more defender before the end of the transfer window will largely depend on the future of Benjamin Pavard at Bayern. The French defender has been heavily linked with Manchester United in the past few days. He has already rejected a contract offer from Die Roten and wants to leave Munich this summer. The Bavarian club had identified Manchester City’s Kyle Walker as the ideal replacement for Pavard, but the English defender is set to stay in the Premier League. Die Roten will dip into the market for a versatile defender only if Pavard ends up leaving the club.
