Leadership- Influential player in the dressing room
While Harry Kane undoubtedly brings many traits to the Bayern Munich locker room, one of the biggest is his leadership. Kane was made captain of Tottenham in 2015 and the English national team in 2017. Adding a national team captain that wore the armband in both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups only adds to the strength of the squad.
While Bayern’s squad already has strong personalities inside the locker room with the likes of Neuer, Muller, and Kimmich, both Neuer and Muller are on the downswing of their careers, with the former struggling to get back fit from his latest setback. Kane’s presence within the squad, especially in the attacking half is much needed from a leadership point of view.
Hunger
It’s been well documented that Tottenham’s trophy case isn’t exactly glamourous as their last trophy came in 2008 when the London-based club won the League Cup. Given that Kane has never experienced success at either the club or national team level, his desire to win a trophy before his career ends adds a bit more hunger to a team that is used to winning trophies. In a 2021 interview with Sky Sports following his Player of the Year Award, Kane mentioned his desire to seek more than just individual awards:
"“It is bittersweet, I would rather be winning team trophies and this one but it is what it is. I am proud to win it, it means it’s been a good season on the pitch. So I have got to try and continue what I am doing.”"
With Bayern’s trophy case beaming with silverware and squad members having literally won everything there is to win at the club level, adding a player that can bring that extra hunger to the squad is much needed.
