Bayern Munich agree fee with Inter Milan for Yann Sommer
August is set to be busy for Bayern Munich as they look to strengthen the squad. Along with arrivals, Die Roten is also expected to have significant departures this month. Yann Sommer is set to join the list of departures as he is set to join Inter Milan next week.
According to Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio, Inter Milan has decided to pay the release clause of Sommer. Bayern is set to receive a fee of just over €6 million. Sommer had already agreed personal terms with the Italian club, so a medical next week will be enough to seal the transfer.
The information from Sky Italia has also been confirmed by German media outlets such as Bild and Sport1. Sommer is not expected to feature in the friendly game against Monaco. Inter Milan has been interested in making Sommer their number one ever since they agreed to sell Andre Onana to Manchester United in July.
Sommer joined Bayern during the winter transfer window this year. The Bavarian club had to sign a new goalkeeper for the second half of last season after Manuel Neuer broke his leg due to a freak accident during a ski trip. Sommer was one of the top targets for Die Roten to become the number one in the absence of Neuer.
The Swiss goalkeeper had a mixed tenure at Die Roten. He ended the campaign with a Bundesliga title. Bayern reportedly had a transfer agreement with Yann Sommer, which allowed him to leave this summer. Sommer wants to play regularly next season to be the first-choice goalkeeper of Switzerland in Euros 2024.
Bayern is not close to finalising replacement for Yann Sommer
Bayern is exploring the market to find a replacement for Sommer. The Bavarian club has been linked with several goalkeepers throughout the summer. They were linked with a move for Polish goalkeeper Kamil Garbara on Monday.
David Raya has been the most heavily linked name to Bayern in the past few days. The Bavarian club reportedly had a loan offer rejected by the Spanish goalkeeper. Raya is now expected to join Arsenal after agreeing personal terms with the North London club. Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez was also linked with Bayern, but the 25-year-old goalkeeper has agreed a move to Chelsea.
