Bayern Munich is set to make changes to the defensive area of the squad this summer. The Bavarian club has already added two new defenders to the squad. Raphael Guerreiro joined Bayern on a free transfer, while Kim Min-jae arrived from Napoli last week to replace Lucas Hernandez.

Die Roten is also looking to strengthen the right-back position this summer. The Bundesliga champions have identified Manchester City’s Kyle Walker as the candidate to strengthen the right-back area. The England international has reportedly agreed personal terms with Rekordmeister.

Walker is likely to replace Benjamin Pavard in the squad. The French defender has rejected a contract offer from Bayern. Pavard is expected to leave Bavaria by the end of the transfer window. Walker will compete with Mazraoui for the right-back position in the starting XI at Die Roten next season.

Mazraoui was linked with Juventus earlier this summer. The Moroccan defender expressed frustration over the lack of playing time at the end of last season. However, things have improved for the 25-year-old right-back. While talking to Sport1 on Sunday, Mazraoui confirmed that he will be staying in Munich for next season.

"“I gave an interview, since then it’s been written all the time that I’m not happy, that I want to go – but I’m still here. It’s a new start, I have good talks with Tuchel.”"

The Moroccan full-back endured a challenging debut season after arriving from Ajax on a free transfer last summer. He started the season on the bench as Benjamin Pavard continued to excel in the right-back position. Mazraoui had to be content with opportunities from the bench.

The 25-year-old full-back managed to break into the starting XI before the World Cup 2022 on the back of good performances. However, an infection after suffering from COVID in December kept Noussair Mazraoui away from action for a couple of months.

After returning from illness, Mazraoui struggled for game time. He eventually got an extended run in the starting XI during the final stretch of the season. Mazraoui made sure that he delivered quality performances whenever he played last season. Die Roten remains determined to keep him for next season, and talks with Thomas Tuchel do suggest that Mazraoui is also convinced about staying in Munich.

Bayern is expected to step up talks with Manchester City for Walker this week. The two sides are set to meet in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday. Walker has already requested Man City and Pep Guardiola for a transfer, so it is just a matter of time before an agreement over the transfer fee is reached between the two clubs. The European Champions are reportedly interested in Pavard to replace Walker in the squad for next season.
