Bayern Munich has done a fine job in the squad-building process this summer. They have signed three key players to the squad and brought a swift conclusion to the departure of Lucas Hernandez. Bayern still has several areas to address this summer, including the goalkeeping department.
The Bundesliga champions are looking to add a backup goalkeeper to the squad this window. Yann Sommer is expected to leave this summer, with Inter Milan showing interest in him. The Swiss goalkeeper wants to play regularly next season to have the proper rhythm for Euros 2024. Alexander Nubel is also closing on a move to VfB Stuttgart.
Bayern is not eager to spend heavily on a goalkeeper this summer, but Thomas Tuchel wants a strong goalkeeper to compete with Neuer. It does look like Sevilla’s Yassine Bounou has emerged as the top target for the Bavarian club.
According to Sport1, Bayern has already held preliminary talks with Yassine Bounou regarding a summer transfer. The Moroccan goalkeeper has not been part of Sevilla’s squad for the pre-season tour due to speculation over his future. Talks between the two clubs are yet to materialize, as per the report from Sport1.
Bounou was also linked with a move to Bayern in January, but the Bavarian club settled for Yann Sommer. The Moroccan shot-stopper club had a fantastic season for club and country. He was one of the top performers at the World Cup 2022 when Morocco reached the semi-finals. The 32-year-old also helped Sevilla to win the Europa League last season.
Tuchel is reportedly looking for a strong number two since there are concerns over the fitness of Manuel Neuer. The German international’s return to action has been delayed as he continues to recover from a serious leg injury that he suffered in December. Neuer will not travel with the squad to Japan for the pre-season tour. It remains to be seen if he will be fit for the start of the season.
Bounou has thrived at the top level, so he will be a solid addition to the goalkeeping department, provided Sevilla demands a reasonable transfer fee. Along with Bounou, Bayern has also been linked with Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili and Brighton’s Roberto Sanchez.

Inter Milan is eager to wrap up a deal for Sommer quickly since they have sold Andre Onana to Manchester United. Sommer is set to travel for the pre-season tour with Die Roten, but talks can take place in Japan since the Italian club is also touring Japan. The next few days are set to be crucial for Die Roten in terms of reshuffling their goalkeeping department for next season.
