Bayern Munich fans got the first sight of Konrad Laimer on the pitch this week. The Austrian midfielder made his uncompetitive debut for Die Roten against Rottach-Egern in a friendly game on Tuesday. Laimer joined Bayern from RB Leipzig on a free transfer in June.

The Austrian midfielder is expected to play a key role for Thomas Tuchel next season. Along with Laimer, Tuchel and Bayern are pushing for one more midfield signing this summer. The Bavarian club wants to sign a number six to add more steel to the midfield and help them dominate big games.

Tuchel and Bayern tried to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United at the start of the transfer window. However, the English midfielder chose to join Arsenal over Die Roten. The Bavarian club will have to focus on other options. The latest update from Germany reveals that Bayern is keeping a close eye on a Brazilian midfielder.

According to Sky Sports in Germany, Bayern is closely following the situation of Fabinho at Liverpool. The Brazilian midfielder is currently in talks with Al-Ittihad. Die Roten has not made a formal approach to Liverpool for Fabinho, but they may consider signing him if a move to Saudi Arabia collapse.

The Brazilian midfielder is currently not in Liverpool’s squad that has been training in Germany due to transfer speculation. Bayern will have to come up with an offer close to £40 million to sign the Brazilian. Al-Ittihad has reportedly offered a similar amount for the 29-year-old defensive midfielder.

Fabinho has been one of the best defensive midfielders in the Premier League since joining Liverpool in 2018. He played a crucial role in the club’s Champions League and Premier League triumphs. The Brazilian was not at his best last season, but he is still in the peak of his career. A change of scenery may help him to get back to his best. He will be a natural fit for the number six position at Bayern but not a long-term option.

Along with Fabinho, Bayern has also been linked with Premier League midfielders such as Kalvin Phillips and Pierre Emile Hojbjerg. Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez is also reportedly on Die Roten’s shortlist for the defensive midfield position.

The Bavarian club will need a couple of departures in the midfield department to make space for a defensive midfielder. Marcel Sabitzer looks destined to leave Bavaria this summer, while there is uncertainty around the futures of Ryan Gravenberch and Leon Goretzka. It does look like Bayern will address this position late in the window. The German Champions are currently focusing on signing Kyle Walker and Harry Kane.
