Bayern Munich: Marcel Sabitzer subject to interest from Borussia Dortmund
Bayern Munich fans got the first glimpse of Konrad Laimer in Bavarian colors on Tuesday against FC Rottach-Egern. His compatriot Marcel Sabitzer also shone in this game for Bayern, scoring five goals after coming on in the second half. Despite reporting for pre-season training for Die Roten, Sabitzer’s future lies away from Bavaria this season.
The Austrian midfielder is surplus to Bayern’s needs in midfield for next season. The Bavarian club is ready to listen to offers for Sabitzer instead of sanctioning a loan deal. Roma has been showing interest in the Austrian midfielder, but staying in the Bundesliga could become a viable option for him.
According to Bild, Borussia Dortmund is interested in signing Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern. The Bundesliga champions want €15 million for the Austrian midfielder. Dortmund wants to convince Sabitzer to stay in the Bundesliga instead of looking for a move away from Germany.
Sabitzer was out of Bayern’s plans for the future when he went out on loan to Manchester United at the end of January. The Austrian midfielder had a productive loan spell at Old Trafford. Few reports suggested that Manchester United may sign him permanently, but they moved on to other midfield targets when the summer transfer window opened.
The former RB Leipzig midfielder endured a difficult 18 months at Bayern since arriving in 2021. He has struggled for consistent playing time as Julian Nagelsmann preferred other midfielders over him in the starting XI. With the arrival of Konrad Laimer, the competition in midfield will be even more intense. It is the right time for Sabitzer to part ways with Die Roten.
A move to Borussia Dortmund will be a much better option for Sabitzer than Roma. Dortmund offers him Champions League football, which Roma cannot offer next season. Moreover, he will play a crucial role for a big team in a league where he has enjoyed the best years of his career. The transfer fee is unlikely to be an issue for Dortmund since they are looking to add quality in the midfield after selling Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid for more than €110 million.
Apart from Sabitzer, there are question marks over the future of Ryan Gravenberch and Leon Goretzka in Die Roten’s midfield department. Gravenberch wants assurances over game time after getting very less playing time during his debut season. Meanwhile, Goretzka is no longer the first-choice midfielder for Bayern under Thomas Tuchel.

Bayern also wants to sign a number six in the ongoing summer transfer window. Thomas Tuchel wanted to bring Declan Rice to Die Roten, but the English midfielder preferred a move to Arsenal. A move for the new defensive midfielder is likely to take place later in the window as Rekordmeister focuses on strengthening their attack.
