Bayern Munich Pre-season Tour of Asia: Preview and Predictions
By Tamhas Woods
Liverpool
Bayern travels to Singapore to take on Liverpool, in a region rich with fans of the 19-time English champions.
It’s obviously going to be a tough challenge, but Liverpool isn’t the force they were the last time Bayern faced them back in 2019 when a 3-1 victory for Jurgen Klopp’s men at the Allianz Arena set the tone for UCL glory. The sides have only met once before in a friendly meeting, with Liverpool romping to a 3-0 win in 2017.
Meanwhile, older Bayern fans will have to remember the 1971/72 Cup Winners’ Cup campaign to find their sole win over Liverpool in ten attempts.
Of Liverpool’s two incoming transfers made so far this summer, the £60m man Dominik Szoboszlai will be a very familiar figure to Bayern. While still at RB Leipzig, he rounded off the scoring with a penalty against Bayern on the penultimate matchday of 2022/23, sealing a 3-1 win that put the Bavarians’ title hopes in serious jeopardy.

The Hungarian has also developed something of a reputation as a ‘late show specialist’, with five of his last six strikes coming in the 85th minute or beyond. Meanwhile, three of Bayern’s final four matches of 2022/23 saw them concede beyond 80′, so this has to be a consideration if that miserable winless drought against Liverpool is to end later this month.
Prediction: Bayern 2, Liverpool 2
