Giovanni Reyna – €25m

With three vital years of growth ahead before his home World Cup, Giovanni Reyna will surely want to join a serial trophy-winning team soon. What odds, for instance, that he goes down the Erling Haaland route, and follows in his father Claudio’s footsteps to Manchester City?

Seven goals in 22 Bundesliga appearances last term make him near enough a one-in-three man. And while goals dried up near the end of the campaign, it’s difficult to ignore the fact that three of his last four goals in 2022/23 came during stoppage time. It shows his ability to come up with big performances when the team needs him the most.

Late goals are a cornerstone of Bayern culture in German lore, and it would be a crying shame to lose the sense of tradition that has kept Die Roten firmly on their throne. The recently concluded season ended perfectly for Die Roten as Jamal Musiala scored the late winner against FC Koln to lift the Bundesliga title.

Verdict

  • Likelihood: 3/10
  • Value: 7/10

Clearly, he is more of a long-term gamble. That potentially makes the value of the next two names more optimal if Bayern wants to resume winning titles by huge margins any time soon. Reyna has two years left on his contract, so this summer could be the right time for him to get a move.
