The midfield revamp at Bayern Munich has started this summer. The Bavarian club often struggled in the center of the park last season against quality teams, which has forced the club to add more quality in this position this summer.
Die Roten has already made a significant addition to the midfield department this summer. The record Bundesliga champions completed a deal for Konrad Laimer at the start of June. The Austrian midfielder arrived from RB Leipzig on a free transfer. Die Roten wanted to sign Laimer last summer, but Leipzig rejected three bids for him.
Along with Laimer, Bayern is looking to add one more midfielder to the squad. West Ham United’s Declan Rice was a top target for Rekordmeister. However, the English midfielder was beyond Die Roten’s budget this summer. He is closing on a move to Arsenal for a fee close to £105 million.
Bayern has to look at alternatives for the second midfield additions. According to Footmercato, Die Roten is interested in signing Khephren Thuram from Nice. The Bavarian club has held preliminary talks with Thuram’s agents. The young French midfielder has been attracting a lot of attention from several big clubs in Europe due to his scintillating performances in Ligue 1.
Nice is looking to get at least €50 million for Thuram. It remains to be seen if Die Roten is ready to stump up such a big fee on a midfielder since they also need a number nine in the current transfer window. Thuram’s future is likely to be decided in the coming days since France was eliminated from U-21 Euros.
Thuram primarily operates in the central midfield position. The young midfielder can breeze past the opposition with his immaculate dribbling. Thuram also has a good eye for playing the final pass. The French midfielder can also play in a deeper role, but it will do injustice to his qualities higher up the pitch.
Khephren Thuram is one of the promising midfield talents in Europe. However, Bayern has several options in his position. The Bavarian club needs a good number six, so signing Thuram will not make a lot of sense. Sky Sports in Germany has already reported that Die Roten is not negotiating with Nice to sign Thuram.

The signing of a defensive midfielder will take place later in the window for Bayern. If the likes of Marcel Sabitzer and Ryan Gravenberch end up leaving Bavaria, Die Roten will have space in the squad for the new midfield addition. For now, the record Bundesliga champions will focus on signing a new striker.
