Bayern Munich will shop in Premier League to replace Benjamin Pavard
Bayern Munich has started preparing for life without Benjamin Pavard and Lucas Hernandez. The French defensive duo are expected to leave Bayern this summer. Hernandez recently told club bosses about his decision to join Paris-Saint Germain, while Pavard is also looking for a new project this summer.
The Bavarian club is reportedly in talks with Manchester City’s Kyle Walker to replace Pavard. The German media has suggested that talks are progressing between Walker and Bayern. However, the English media reported on Monday that Walker is fine with extending his stay at Manchester City. The English club is also ready to keep Walker for next season, with few reports suggesting that contract talks are taking place with the right-back.
Die Roten remains interested in signing Walker, so they will continue to work on this deal. However, the 33-year-old England international is not the only Premier League defender on Bayern’s shortlist to replace Benjamin Pavard.
According to SportBild, Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta is also on Die Roten’s shortlist if they fail to agree a deal for Walker. The Spanish defender primarily plays in the right-back position. He can also operate as a center-back in a back three. Azpilicueta was one of the important players for Thomas Tuchel during his spell at Chelsea.
The former Marseille defender has been consistent for Chelsea throughout the last decade. Along with his qualities in and out of possession, he has become a leader at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel consistently picked him in the starting XI at Chelsea. The German coach will be enthused to work with him again if a move for Walker doesn’t materialize.
The Spanish defender currently has a year left on his contract at Chelsea. It remains to be seen if he is part of Mauricio Pochettino’s project at Stamford Bridge. He has won every possible trophy with Chelsea, so Die Roten might tempt him to a new challenge in the Bundesliga.
The next few weeks will give a clear idea about Die Roten’s plans to replace Pavard. If they manage to find a breakthrough with Walker, then a move for Azpilicueta will not proceed. Meanwhile, the Bavarian club will also hope to receive concrete offers from clubs for Benjamin Pavard.

Bayern is also working on a deal to sign Napoli’s Kim Min-jae. The South Korean defender is reportedly leaning toward a move to Bavaria. Die Roten can activate his release clause at the start of July. The 26-year-old defender will replace Lucas Hernandez in the squad. The French defender will most likely complete a move to PSG when he returns from vacation.
