It has been a significant week for Bayern Munich in terms of squad planning for next week. Lucas Hernandez has told the Bavarian club about his desire to join Paris Saint-Germain. The German club will now wait for a suitable offer from PSG. They are ready to cash in this summer since Hernandez has 12 months left on his contract.
Bayern also decided to abandon plans to sign Declan Rice from West Ham United. The Bavarian club and Thomas Tuchel were strongly interested in Rice for the number six role. However, Rice wants to stay in the Premier League, and he favours a move to Arsenal.
Die Roten will have to look at alternatives for the number six positions. The club chiefs are reportedly keen on breaking up the midfield pairing of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka. Kimmich will be moved into the number eight position, while Goretzka will have to fight for a place in the team.
After giving up on signing Rice, Bayern has another Premier League midfielder on their shortlist to strengthen the defensive midfield position. According to Bild, Bayern is interested in Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Danish midfielder was discussed as a potential signing in a meeting at Sabner Strasse this week.
Hojbjerg currently has two years left on his contract at Spurs, so he could be on the move this summer. Pini Zahavi is expected to look for a new club for the Danish midfielder. Die Roten previously had a tough round of talks with Zahavi in the last few seasons when they were dealing with him as the agent of David Alaba and Robert Lewandowski.
Tottenham Hotspur may not stand in the way of a potential transfer for Hojbjerg due to his contract length. The Bavarian club will focus on signing a striker in the coming weeks before turning their attention toward the defensive midfield position. A move for Hojbjerg may take place late in the window if the interest from Die Roten materializes into a bid.

Hojbjerg was part of the first team at Bayern when he came through the reserves team in 2013. He played under Pep Guardiola and Jupp Heynckes at Die Roten before joining Southampton. The Danish midfielder was eventually signed by Jose Mourinho at Spurs.
The 27-year-old midfielder can slot in the number six position at Die Roten. He is defensively solid and has a great work rate to provide the necessary shield to the back four. Hojbjerg can be a solid signing to add more quality to the number six position, provided he is signed for a reasonable fee.
