Bayern Munich: Yann Sommer attracting interest from several clubs
There has been a significant injury boost for Bayern Munich in the past few days as Lucas Hernandez and Manuel Neuer are training outdoors after spending the last five months on the sidelines. Neuer is yet to train completely with the first team, but he is expected to be fit for the pre-season.
The return of Neuer to complete fitness in pre-season spells bad news for the future of Yann Sommer in Bavaria. The Swiss goalkeeper was signed in January after Neuer was ruled out for the rest of the season due to a serious leg injury. Sommer arrived in Munich from Borussia Monchengladbach just before the start of Ruckrunde.
Neuer’s return will make Sommer second choice goalkeeper at Die Roten. He reportedly has an agreement with Bayern to leave in the summer. The Swiss goalkeeper wants to play regularly next season due to Euro 2024. He will not be short of offers in the summer.
According to Kicker (via iMiaSanMia), Villarreal, Leicester City, and Valencia are interested in signing Sommer during the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Bild is also reporting that Manchester United remains interested in Sommer. The Red Devils wanted to sign him in the winter window, but he opted for a move to Bayern.
Die Roten will look to recoup the fee they paid for Sommer. Borussia Monchengladbach reportedly received close to €10 million for the Swiss goalkeeper. It is a reasonable fee for an experienced goalkeeper that can perform at the top level.
Sommer has endured a mixed five months at Bayern until now. His shot-stopping has been decent, but there have been some costly errors with the ball while playing out from the back. Despite a tough spell at Bayern, Sommer can be a very good addition for any side in Europe that is looking for an experienced goalkeeper.

Along with Sommer, Bayern is also expected to part ways with Alexander Nubel in the summer. The former Schalke goalkeeper will return to Bavaria at the end of the season after a two-year-long loan spell at Monaco. He is not keen on staying at Bayern since Neuer will be the first-choice goalkeeper next season. Bayern is also ready to listen to offers for him in the summer.
Neuer is expected to be number one next season. The German goalkeeper has successfully recovered from a freak accident during a ski trip in December. Sven Ulreich is likely to deputize Neuer next season. Ulreich’s contract will expire at the end of next season.
