The midfield department is set to be reinvigorated at Bayern Munich during the summer. RB Leipzig’s Konrad Laimer effectively confirmed his move to Bayern over the weekend. The Austrian midfielder will arrive on a free transfer since his contract at Leipzig expires at the end of the season.

Along with Laimer, Bayern is expected to sign another midfielder in the summer. Thomas Tuchel wants someone that can play in the number six position next season. The latest update from Germany suggests that Die Roten is interested in another midfielder that will be available on a free transfer in the summer.

According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Bayern is interested in Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot. The French midfielder is not expected to sign a new contract at Juventus and leave on a free transfer in the summer.

Rabiot is yet to make a decision on his next decision, so Bayern can make a move now to beat competition from other big clubs. Manchester United has been heavily linked with a move for Rabiot as they tried to sign him last summer. SportBild has revealed that Rabiot is looking for an improvement on his current salary (€7 million net/year).

Thomas Tuchel has previously worked with Adrien Rabiot during his spell at Paris Saint-Germain. The French midfielder is aware of Tuchel’s philosophy. Rabiot is coming off a very productive season with Juventus on a personal level. He has been one of the standout performers for the Italian club, and he also did well for France at World Cup 2022.

Despite Rabiot’s productive season, signing him would be a strange move for Bayern. Rabiot is at his best in the number eight role. Die Roten currently has several options for this role, and they are looking for a midfielder that can play in front of the defense.

Moreover, Rabiot will turn 29 next season, so it will not be a long-term signing for Bayern. His salary may also have an impact on Die Roten’s wage structure. Despite Rabiot’s quality, there are significant cons about signing him. It does look like he is further down the list of midfield targets for Rekordmeister.

Bayern was previously linked with Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez. However, the latest update from Germany suggests that Die Roten will not make a bid for the Mexican midfielder. Chelsea’s Matteo Kovacic has also been linked with Rekordmeister. The Bavarian club has also reportedly held talks with West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice. There is likely to be more clarity on Bayern’s priority target for the midfield once the annual general meeting takes place later this month.
