Bayern Munich enjoyed a good run of form in the past few weeks until the disastrous defeat against RB Leipzig on Saturday. The defeat against Leipzig puts the fate of the title race out of Die Roten’s hands. Bayern will need a favour from Augsburg or Mainz against Borussia Dortmund to have a chance of retaining the league title.

The record champions had a good first-half performance against Leipzig but couldn’t maintain the same level of performance in the second half. Joao Cancelo was the standout player for Bayern during the first half as he provided Die Roten the cutting edge in the final third from the left flank.

The Portuguese full-back has been in fine form over the past few weeks. He has been deployed in the left-back position after Alphonso Davies suffered a serious injury. Despite the recent good run of form and chipping in with six assists since arriving in January, Joao Cancelo may not stay in Bavaria next season.

Bayern has different priorities for the summer transfer window, so they may find it difficult to pay the big fee that Manchester City will demand for Cancelo. Moreover, Sport1 is reporting that Cancelo is not completely settled in Munich.

The report from Sport1 reveals that Joao Cancelo doesn’t seem to have a lot of contact with his teammates off the pitch in Munich. He does share a great camaraderie with Leroy Sane, as the duo played together at Manchester City. The Portuguese full-back is yet to reveal that he wants to stay in Munich, which further raises questions about his future in Bavaria.

Die Roten agreed an option of €70 million with Manchester City to complete a permanent move for Cancelo. After completing Cancelo’s loan signing, Hasan Salihamidzic insisted that they would have to renegotiate a fee with Man City. With the necessary additions needed in midfield and attack, Bayern is not expected to fork out a big fee for a full-back.

Bayern is well covered in the full-back positions for next season. Noussair Mazraoui and Benjamin Pavard will fight for the right-back position. The Moroccan can also play in the left-back position if Alphonso Davies is absent in the matchday squad. Lucas Hernandez is another option for the left-back position. Josip Stanisic can also play in both full-back positions, while Joshua Kimmich can do a fairly good job in the right-back position if needed.

Joao Cancelo is a fine player, as Thomas Tuchel praised him during the pre-match press conference on Friday. However, he will be a luxury transfer for Die Roten in the upcoming summer transfer window. He is unlikely to play for Manchester City next season after falling out with Pep Guardiola, so his future is likely to be at another big club.
