Bayern Munich chiefs have directly confirmed that signing a striker is set to be a priority in the summer transfer window. The last few weeks have highlighted the need for a striker for Bayern as they were knocked out of the Champions League and DFB Pokal. The German club has struggled to convert chances during this poor run of form.

One report in Germany has confirmed that Bayern is ready to smash their transfer fee record to land a new striker. The record Bundesliga champions are monitoring several strikers in Europe. According to Daily Mirror, Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins is the latest forward scouted by Bayern.

The scouts from Bayern were present at Aston Villa’s last Premier League game against Fulham. Mirror believes that they were scouting Watkins in this game. The former Brentford striker has been in fine form this season. He has taken his game to the next level under Unai Emery in the second half of the campaign.

Watkins has scored 14 goals in 32 league games this season. He has been one of the most prolific goal-scorers in the Premier League since World Cup 2022. The 27-year-old forward is expected to be in the fray for a national team call-up after his exploits with Aston Villa.

Ollie Watkins will be a low-budget option for Bayern if they decide to make a move for him in the summer. The English forward has two years left on his contract, so Aston Villa is not exactly in a position of strength to negotiate a big fee in the summer if Bayern comes calling for him.

Bayern may not eventually make a move for Watkins, but they are doing due diligence on several striker options in the market. The first choice targets for the Bavarian clubs are likely to be Victor Osimhen and Harry Kane. Both forwards are enjoying prolific campaigns this season, but they will cost a fortune in the summer.

Meanwhile, Uli Hoeness is reportedly pushing Bayern to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt. The French forward has enjoyed a prolific Bundesliga debut season with Frankfurt. Kolo Muani will also be an expensive option since his contract at Frankfurt expires in 2027.

There will be more clarity on Bayern’s first choice option for the number nine position by the end of the season. For now, the Bavarian club is keeping an eye on the top-class forwards in Europe that are scoring at a good rate.
