The midfield department at Bayern Munich is set to witness changes in the summer. The Bavarian club has already reached an agreement with Konrad Laimer for a summer transfer. The Austrian midfielder is expected to join in June when his contract with RB Leipzig comes to an end.

Meanwhile, Marcel Sabitzer could be on his way out from Bayern. The 28-year-old midfielder has struggled to nail down a place in the team since arriving from Leipzig in 2021. He eventually joined Manchester United in January on loan for the rest of the season to get regular playing time. Sabitzer’s future is unlikely to be in Bavaria, but a final decision will be made at the end of the season.

Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants to sign one more midfielder in the summer. Before the second leg against Manchester City, one report in Germany suggested that Tuchel was not impressed by the performances of Leon Goretzka, and he may rethink a new midfield combination. However, Goretzka went on to start against Man City.

The German coach is reportedly looking for a ball-playing midfielder that would play with Joshua Kimmich in the center of the park. Tuchel’s desire to sign another midfielder does put the spotlight on the future of Leon Goretzka. The latest update from Germany does sound promising in terms of Goretzka’s prospect of staying in Bavaria.

According to Christian Falk (via iMiaSanMia),  Bayern is not considering the departure of Goretzka in the summer. The German midfielder is also not looking for a transfer. He is eager to come back strongly next season after a disappointing 2022/23 campaign.

Leon Goretzka has been inconsistent for Bayern this season. He has not provided the usual goal-scoring prowess from the midfield, which used to mask his conservative approach in terms of creativity. Moreover, injuries have been a consistent problem for the German midfielder this season.

Bayern will hope to see Leon Goretzka get back to his best next year. The added competition for a place in midfield may have a positive effect on Goretzka, which may eventually help Bayern on the pitch. It is understandable from Bayern’s perspective to stick with Goretzka since he has generally performed well for the team in the last few seasons and remains a leader in the dressing room.

The other midfielder that may leave Bayern in the summer is Ryan Gravenberch. The Dutch midfielder will reportedly tell the club that he wants to seal a move to Liverpool in the summer. Bayern may have to reluctantly sell Gravenberch if they end up signing another central midfielder.
