Bayern Munich focused on getting long-term targets during the last summer transfer window. Matthijs de Ligt hit the ground running for Bayern, while the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and Mathys Tel have endured difficult debut seasons in terms of getting adequate playing time. Die Roten needs to lay down a better plan for these two players if they want to reap the rewards in the long term.

Tel arrived in Bavaria after the departure of Robert Lewandowski. The French forward enjoyed a breakthrough campaign at Rennes, which attracted the interest of Bayern. The record Bundesliga champions ended up paying a significant fee (€30 million) to complete the transfer of Mathys Tel last summer.

The 18-year-old forward has shown glimpses of talent in the limited opportunities he has got this season. Tel has scored five goals across all competitions for Bayern, averaging a goal every 100 minutes this season. The French forward was unfortunate to miss crucial games in the past few weeks due to an injury he suffered at the end of March.

It is not a secret that Bayern is looking to sign a number nine in the summer. The Bavarian club has been heavily linked with several strikers throughout the season as they struggled in the final third. The departure of Lewandowski has left a massive hole in the attack at Bayern. Thomas Tuchel is expected to hold talks with Hasan Salihamidzic in the coming days to finalize plans for transfers with a major focus on getting a prolific goalscorer.

With a new number nine arriving at Bayern in the summer, Tel may struggle to get playing time next season. According to Kicker, the French forward may go out on loan next season to continue his development. A final decision on Tel’s future is likely to be made when the window starts in June.

Bayern has already extended the contract of Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, so it makes no sense to keep Mathys Tel in the squad for next season. At this stage of his career, Tel needs to play regularly to polish the rough edges of his game.

In an ideal scenario, Bayern will want Tel to stay in the Bundesliga. However, the priority for the forward should be guaranteed playing time at the top level. Considering the versatility of Tel, there will be significant interest if Bayern makes him available on loan. Rekordmeister has struggled to arrange the best loan moves for young players in the recent past. They cannot afford to make the same mistake with Tel.
